The easiest way to estimate camping shower water use is to measure your own shower’s flow, then multiply by the time it actually runs. A bag’s capacity or a pump’s advertised runtime cannot tell you how many comfortable washes your group will get.

Measure litres per minute
At home, run the shower into a marked container for a measured interval at the setting you plan to use. If it delivers one litre in 30 seconds, the average flow over that test is two litres per minute.
Follow the product instructions throughout the test and do not run a pump dry. A gravity system may change flow as its water level drops, so test more than the first few seconds from a full bag.
Calculate actual running time
Multiply the measured flow by the minutes the water is on. At an illustrative two litres per minute, 90 seconds of running water uses three litres. Three minutes uses six litres. These are arithmetic examples, not performance claims for a particular shower.
Include the water used while adjusting the flow or temperature and any rinsing of equipment. Turning off the flow while washing can reduce use where the system allows it, but keep the routine practical for the person using it.
Choose a suitable reservoir

Plan the refill and disposal route
Confirm the campsite permits your shower setup and how it wants wastewater handled. A drain-through floor does not establish permission to discharge onto the pitch. Use a suitable collection arrangement or the site’s facilities where required.
Include the effort of carrying fresh water and moving collected wastewater. A larger supply can reduce refill trips while making each load harder to manage.
Check temperature separately
A battery pump does not necessarily heat water, and sunshine does not provide a predictable heating time. Follow the water-temperature limits of the equipment and check for a comfortable temperature before use.
Keep drinking-water reserves separate in your plan. After a practice wash, record the amount used and adjust the supply for the group and available facilities. A measured routine gives a more reliable packing decision than an optimistic shower-count claim.
