Induction cooking can be convenient on a suitable electric pitch, but the campsite’s supply and the hob’s operating requirements come first. Gas gives a different kind of independence, along with fuel transport and outdoor-use requirements. Neither choice is determined by the hob alone.

Check the pitch before buying a hob
Ask the site for the available amperage and any appliance restrictions. The Camping and Caravanning Club’s electricity guide explains why campsite supplies must be shared carefully between appliances and why a purpose-built camping connection is needed.
At a nominal 230V, a 10A supply represents 2,300W before allowing for site requirements and everything else running. A 2,000W hob alongside a 1,000W appliance would total 3,000W and exceed that example supply. Use the actual appliance ratings and the site’s limit, not these figures as permission for your pitch.
Match cookware and cooking space
An induction hob needs cookware explicitly suitable for induction, in the diameter range specified by the hob. Some camping aluminium and titanium pots will not work. A magnetic base is a useful initial check, but confirm the cookware label and appliance instructions.
Check whether the hob is permitted in your intended location and protected from conditions it cannot tolerate. A portable household hob is not automatically an outdoor-rated appliance. Maintain ventilation clearances and keep the connection arrangement dry and suitable for campsite use.
Compare the gas alternative
A cartridge stove such as the Campingaz Camp’Bistro 3 avoids drawing from the hook-up but needs its specified cartridge and approved pans. Its manufacturer’s details identify it as an outdoor appliance.
Use a gas stove outdoors with the required clearances, never as a tent heater. Include the cylinder or cartridges, any regulator and hose, and suitable storage when comparing cost and boot space.
Choose for the trips you book
If most trips are to electric pitches and you have suitable cookware, assess an approved induction setup against the site supply. If you often book non-electric pitches, gas may fit your routine more easily.
Running induction from a portable power station requires a separate check of inverter output and usable battery energy; a socket alone proves neither. Price the whole system and consider a simple meal plan for a power interruption rather than assuming another large battery will solve every cooking need.
