A stainless-looking kettle is not automatically suitable for induction, and a collapsible kettle may use a different base from another model in the same range. Look for explicit induction compatibility before buying.

Check the kettle and hob together
The hob needs suitable cookware within its stated base-diameter range. Confirm the kettle’s induction approval and the dimensions of the area contacting the hob. The kettle’s widest outer dimension is not necessarily the diameter the hob can detect.
A magnet sticking to the base is a useful screening check, but it does not replace either manufacturer’s instructions. Do not add an adapter disc unless the hob and accessory makers permit that arrangement.
A collapsible option to investigate
The Sea to Summit Detour Kettle Cook Set includes a collapsible kettle and two cups; the manufacturer explicitly describes gas and induction use. Compare the 1.6L Detour set on Amazon UK, checking that you are selecting Detour rather than a similarly shaped Frontier or older X-series product.
The complete set is different from a kettle-only listing. Compare the included items and packed weight on that basis. Buy extra cups only if they suit the number of people and the way you pack.
Check fill level and handling
Follow the kettle’s fill markings and instructions for expanding its body before heating. A nominal 1.6L capacity is not permission to boil water at the rim. Check that handles and lid are in their intended positions and keep the appliance on a stable surface.
Plan how much water you need for the actual mugs you use. Two large mugs and a meal pouch may require more than one heating session. Avoid repeatedly boiling excess water simply because there is spare room in the kettle.
Confirm the electrical setup
An induction-compatible kettle does not make the hob suitable for every campsite. Check the pitch supply, the hob’s rating and all other appliances drawing power. Follow the hob’s restrictions on moisture, ventilation and placement.
If you also use the kettle on gas, read those instructions separately, especially flame position around flexible sides or handles. “Works on induction” is not approval for an open campfire.
After use, let the kettle cool and dry it before collapsing and packing. Inspect flexible sections and the base joint during normal cleaning so damage is noticed before the next trip.
