A hiss at an air-tent valve can come from an incorrectly set closure, dirt at a sealing surface or damaged components. It can also be confused with leakage at a pump adapter. Identify when the air escapes before deciding which part needs attention.

Separate inflation leakage from a closed-valve leak

If air escapes only while pumping, check the hose connection and adapter according to their instructions. Once disconnected, confirm the valve is in its intended closed position and fit any required cap. Some systems use a push-and-turn mechanism; others work differently.

Read the diagram for your tent instead of copying a procedure from a similar-looking valve. Forcing the centre mechanism or tightening a cap with pliers can turn a minor problem into damaged threads or seals.

Inspect accessible surfaces carefully
