For a family tent, the pitch needs to accommodate the fully pegged shelter and the way you will use it. The bedroom dimensions or a tent’s headline floor area are not enough. Include guylines, porches, doors, permitted furniture and any vehicle position required by the campsite.

Find the fully pitched dimensions
Use the manufacturer’s plan for the exact tent model and any fitted extension. Check whether the published length includes the porch and whether the quoted footprint excludes guylines. If the plan is unclear, ask the maker or retailer before booking.
Pitch the tent at home or measure a demonstration model when possible. Record the complete area needed with the guylines correctly positioned. Do not shorten or omit required lines merely to fit a smaller booking.
Check how the campsite defines its pitch
Ask what the stated size includes, where the tent must sit and whether your vehicle occupies part of the same space. Confirm policies for gazebos, pup tents, awnings and additional shelters.
